Bible Sunday

National Bible Sunday and Sabbath is an opportunity for churches to commemorate the Scriptures, recognise their importance, give thanks for them and encourage their use. Bible Sunday is on July 20 and Bible Sabbath is on July 19.

Bible Sunday LogoFor some years this has been an annual occasion for many congregations. In addition to celebrating the Bibl's value and importance to us, Bible Sunday also provides an opportunity to consider the world-wide needs for the translation, publication and distribution of God's Word.

What is this year's theme?

This year the theme is "The Word of Life for a Needy World". The words are based on Philippians 2:15-16, where Paul tells Christians that they hold out the word of life to a dark world, in which they shine as lights.
The world has much spiritual darkness, but Jesus, who said, "I am the light of the world", has commited His life-giving message to His people, to take it throughout the world. As the Gospel spreads, Bibles are needed. Those who have come to faith in Christ are limited in their spiritual growth if they don't have access to a Bible. Through the Scriptures God speaks. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ". (Romans 10:17 ESV) As this word of life goes forth, it changes lives and communities.
