Bibles in the Midst of Catastrophe
In the midst of catastrophe.....
That's the time when the Bible and the comfort, hope and assurance its message brings, is most needed.
Food, shelter, clothing, medicine...they're the first priority. But once they're supplied and applied, the soul's need for sustenance starts to cry out and that cry gets louder and louder. That's when Bibles are most urgently and desperately needed....
In Mozambique, Bible Society has asked for our help to provide Bibles for 9,000 families, many of whom are Christians, in the wake of recent flooding which has seen 100,000 people displaced, 22,000 homes destroyed and 33,000 hectares of crops ruined. There is an urgent need to replace Bibles lost in the floods and for the hope and assurance they bring.
In Cameroon, Bible Society is responding to the needs of refugees from neighbouring Chad, who have fled in the wake of recent violence by Sudanese rebels in the capital N'Djamena, by supplying a 'holistic package' comprising a Bible, Bible comics, rice, oil and soap.
In India, Bible Society is working to replace Bibles following the persecution of Christians by extremists of other faiths in Orissa which has seen seventy churches, five convents and 1,500 houses burnt to the ground. Over 100,000 Christians have been displaced and many are in hiding.
By making a gift to these emergency Bible needs you will be helping to bring comfort and hope where it is most needed.
