Bible Society is looking to appoint a capable kaituitui (coordinator) to manage phase one of a new Maori Bible . The appointee will need to be a fluent Maori speaker.

Bible Society New Zealand has long been involved in the translation, publication and distribution of Te Paipera Tapu – ever since it was first published in 1868. The last revision of Te Paipera Tapu was published in 1952.

In 2009, key denominational leaders met at Bible Society New Zealand’s offices to discuss the vision for a new translation. Although the current edition is still considered to be a taonga, key Maori denominational church leaders have agreed that it is now time to begin work towards a new translation of the Bible into Maori to sit alongside the existing edition. This endorsement allowed a steering committee including representatives from different denominations to be formed and for work to begin.

This role is to coordinate phase one of the project, including identifying and working with stakeholders, gaining census on translation style, arranging hui and training events, and preparing budgets and operations plans.

Bible Society is based in Wellington but the kaituitui could be based elsewhere in Aotearoa.

To learn more or to apply email Allan Davidson adavidson@biblesociety.org.nz and request a job description and application form. Applications close Friday 11 June.
