East Coast Bays Action Group Dinner Raises $9000
Jun 20, 2008
The East Coast Bays Action Group held a hugely successful fundraising dinner on Saturday 7 June to raise funds for the translation and publishing of the Tokelau New Testament.
Ioane Teao, Head Tokelau Translator, was a great choice for speaker and his passion and dedication to the Tokelau translation was evident.
The dinner was a great success with $5000 raised on the night followed by more generous gifts on Sunday morning bringing the total to $9000, with still more coming in!
Tokelau is the sixth largest ethnic group in New Zealand. 86% of Tokelauans affiliate with a religion and of those 98% with Christianity. The Tokelauan language is related to Samoan, so Tokelauans currently read the Samoan Bible as they have no Bible available in their own language. We look forward to providing Tokelauans here in New Zealand and in Tokelau, with a New Testament in their own heart language very soon.
In addition to the generous gifts received, 20 people signed up on the night to become new Bible-A-Month Club members. What a fantastic result for one action group event.
A huge thank you to everyone involved for your help in making the dinner such a success.
