Gulf States
Thank God for the development of Bible work in Qatar: the Bible Society now has a representative based in Doha. Give thanks, too, for the development of the Arabic Scripture programme in Kuwait and the other Gulf countries. Pray for the development of the Bible Centre in the Catholic church compound in Qatar. Pray also for a Bible Centre in Abu Dhabi.
Iraq
Bible work continues despite the indescribably difficult situation. Thank God for His protection and for the publication of new Scripture portions in Kurdish Surani for northern Kurdistan, which has paved the way for the official registration of the Bible Society there. Please pray for the safety of Christians and for the Church’s ministry. Pray also for the Bible Society’s special relief and Scriptures programmes in schools, churches and villages.
Syria
Give thanks for the many opportunities to distribute the Scriptures despite regional turmoil and for God’s protection over the Bible Society team. Please pray for God’s guidance as the Society brings physical and spiritual help to Iraqi refugees. Pray also for the opening of the new Christian Resource Centre in Damascus and for the vast distribution programmes taking place.
Lebanon
Praise God for new opportunities in the midst of tremendous challenges. The Relief & Scriptures programme continues to bring physical and spiritual help to many displaced people. Please pray for every person who receives Scriptures. Ask God to bless the Bible Society’s new publications, its Bible-based television productions and the radio broadcasts of God’s Word.
Cyprus
Thank God for the 10 000 New Testaments given to the Ministry of Education for free distribution to all schools in the country. Also give thanks for the 10 000 copies of camouflage-edition New Testaments that were distributed free to the Army. Pray that all this distribution will bear fruit in the lives of many.
New Zealand
Thank God for the many faithful people who support Bible Society work. Pray for God’s blessing on the distribution of Scriptures, including Easter selections recently distributed. Also pray for Bibles provided for prisoners and hospital patients and for the soon-to-be-published Maori/English and Tokelauan New Testaments.
Australia
Please pray for the young Roman Catholics who are traveling from around the world to all the major cities in Australia for the World Youth Day that will be celebrated in August. Bible Society is supporting this event by providing special Scripture and Gospel publications in a variety of languages. Please pray for safety and good organization and that the young people will come to know God through reading His Word.
East Timor
Pray for the effective witness of the churches in this new nation. Pray for political stability to be firmly established and for the influence of the Word of God to increase and become a major part of the foundation upon which this nation is built. Pray for the growth of the Church and its leadership.
Papua New Guinea
There are over 700 languages spoken in Papua New Guinea. The Bible Society plays a key role in facilitating Bible translation, and publishing, in many of these languages. Pray for the revision of the Motu Bible and the completion of the Hula Old Testament. Pray for the Bible Society as a leadership change is taking place this year.
Indonesia
Please pray for the projects, programmes and other activities managed by the Bible Society. These include the publication of the first Indonesian Study Bible, translation and revision projects and the broadcasting of Bible texts on the radio. Pray also for the work of the Bible Study Centre and of the Society’s distribution department.
Singapore
Praise God that initial approval has been granted to rebuild the Bible House. Pray that final authorization will be obtained for construction work to commence. The Bible Society produced a devotional for Lent; pray that the scriptures in it will have been of blessing to those who read it.
Brunei
A link has been established for the provision of Scriptures to Brunei by the Bible Society of Singapore. Pray that the door to Scripture distribution will remain open. South Pacific Praise God that despite natural disasters, political and economic challenges, the Bible Society has been able to continue to translate, publish and distribute the Scriptures. Thank God for “Kingdom Kids” project, an opportunity to promote the use of Scriptures to children. Pray for God’s guidance for all the Society’s projects.
Micronesia
Thank God for the growing demand for Scriptures in various languages and for the completion of new translations. Please pray that God’s Word will continue to be widely respected throughout the islands and for Christian leaders as they continue to work together. Pray for more Scriptures and increased opportunities for distribution.
Malaysia
Thank God for the new opportunities to promote the use of Scriptures in the national language – Bahasa Malaysia – often in partnership with other Christian agencies. Pray that these good relationships will continue and be effective in bringing the Bible to all Malaysians. Thank God for the successful launch of the Dusun Bible.
Thailand
Praise God for the Bible Society’s successful distribution activities in 2007. Demand for Scriptures, especially the Thai-English Bible, has increased. Thank God for the completion of the Thai revision of Proverbs. The revision of Psalms is approaching the final stage. Pray also for the Society’s other projects.
Bulgaria
Give thanks for the successful launch of the new Children’s Bible and for its widespread distribution. Give thanks also for the interest of children in orphanages in the Bible and in children’s biblical literature. Please pray for the work of the Bible Society among non-churchgoers and young people.
Romania
Thank God for the Bible Society’s success with the interconfessional New Testament translation project; pray that the Society will make good use of this experience with the Old Testament translation. The Society also seeks God’s guidance for its work in prisons, old people’s homes, orphanages and rehabilitation centres.
Moldova
Thank God for the way the churches are working together, and for the willingness of public libraries to stock biblical literature. Pray for strengthening ties with all churches, for wisdom and vision in carrying out Bible work efficiently, for enhanced fundraising and for new translation projects.
Ukraine
Thank God for people’s interest in God’s Word, for church support for Bible work, and for opportunities to reach more people with the Gospel. Pray that the Bible Society will become even more courageous in its work and that more people will join the Bible ministry. Pray for the new translation team and for the work among blind children.
Solvakia
Give thanks that, after nearly 20 years, the Slovak ecumenical translation of the whole Bible has been completed. Pray that it will be widely accepted and used by the churches and the general public. The Bible Society strongly believes that, as Slovakia becomes more secular, Jesus Christ is the only hope for the people.
Czech Republic
The Bible Society is grateful for new opportunities to share the Word of God. It has started publishing the Bible in a large font, making it accessible to visually impaired people. The Society thanks God for the dramatized New Testament and requests prayer especially for non-Christians who listen to the Gospel message.
Germany
Please pray for the young people of Germany who are not familiar with the Bible. Pray that the Bible Society may reach them through its projects – especially with its BasisBibel – and that they may discover what the Bible can teach them. Pray also for the Society’s efforts to publicise its work among new donors.
Angloa
Thank God for His protection during the year. Praise God for increased Scripture distribution, thanks to a new distribution venue. Pray that the Bible Society will find donors for its current projects and that more young people will get involved in Bible work. Continue to pray for the acquisition of land to build a Bible House.
Congo (Brazzaville)
Give thanks that the newly-published New Testaments in Munukutuba and Lari were well-received. Pray that the churches will support the new depot in Beembe. Praise God for the impact of the literacy programme for soldiers, and for the continuing success of the Good Samaritan programme.
Gabon
Praise God that the Good Samaritan programme is being used by the government in its programme to combat AIDS. Ask God to bless the Bible Society’s translation projects and inspire the churches to increase their support for Bible work. Pray for the Society’s fundraising, for distribution to remote areas, and for new, better-equipped premises.
