What is a Bible Society Action Group?
A Bible Society action group is a group of volunteers who are committed to Bible Society's work of making the Scriptures known and available. Action groups are centered on a town or suburb. Working along with their Bible Society regional representative, they enlist the support of churches and Christian groups to:
- Raise money for the worldwide cause of the Bible Society
- Distribute Scripture
- Encourage Scripture reading by others
- Enlist the help of others in their work
Who should serve in an Action Group?
Committed active Christians from as many churches as possible, who read and believe the Bible, and have proved its effectiveness in their own lives. Action group members are often, but not always, volunteer Bible Society church representatives in their churches.
What do Action Groups do?
- Work in fellowship with as wide a range of Christian churches as possible.
- Organise and promote events to raise awareness and funds for Bible Society's work of making the Scriptures readily available locally and globally.
- Promote prayer for Bible Society and its work at home and overseas.
- Encourage use and reading of the Scriptures as widely as possible in the local area.
What would I be expected to do?
To start with, attend a meeting of an Action Group. You won't be under any obligation. Groups meet every one to three months. Meetings are lead by volunteers, and are relaxed and informative. The Action Group will probably be organising an event, and you will quickly have the opportunity to become involved if you wish.
How can I find an Action Group in my area?
