Become a missionary without leaving home!

It costs us $15 to deliver a Bible to someone unable to afford one around the world – so for every $15 raised, we can place the Bible in the hands of those needing it most.

Millions want to read the Bible and to grow in their faith. Millions need the Word of God for their faith to be nurtured. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, such as war, poverty, religious suppression and political instability, many people around the world are unable to access the life-transforming message of the Bible.

Join thousands of other Kiwis who have committed to giving monthly to help get the Bible into the hands and hearts of these people all around the world.

This kind of regular giving sustains the mission and allows us to plan ahead for future projects.

Here’s how it works

It’s simple – each month we nominate a different Bible-needy country to support. You commit to give and pray each month for the Bible mission in the nominated country – you’ll be supporting a new Bible mission in a different country each month!

What your monthly gift will go towards

Distribution:

Those unable to buy a Bible for themselves can receive a free or subsidised copy.

Literacy:

Literacy classes, audio and braille Bibles can be given to those for whom the Bible is an inaccessible book.

Engagement:

The Bible can be brought to life and advocated for here in New Zealand.

Here’s what you’ll get:

Once you’ve joined Bible a Month, we’ll post you our beautifully designed annual calendar, which showcases the countries you’ll be supporting each month – it also includes daily Scripture verses to keep you inspired! And to highlight the impact your support is having around the world, you’ll receive our monthly ‘Factsheet’.

The type of impacts your gift will have:

Nepal – Kem’s story

“My father is blind and my mother has a cleft palette. They worked hard to educate me, but I was unable to find a job, so I moved to the Gulf States to work as a night security guard. But I couldn’t get used to my new situation. I couldn’t eat or sleep and soon I was sliding into depression.”

“I felt trapped in my situation. I sought remedies from doctors but they couldn’t find anything wrong with me.”

Then one day Kem remembered a mentally, unstable woman from his village in Nepal, who had terrorized the village with her screams and strange behavior. One day, a brave person caught hold of her and prayed for her in the name of Jesus and, immediately, she was healed.

Kem wondered about Jesus and if He could heal him too but, he didn’t know how to pray to Him. Then, one day, a friend gave Kem a New Testament in Nepali. He began to read it from cover to cover. The friend talked to him about Jesus and began to pray for him. Kem repented. He gave his life to Jesus. Within a week he was healed of all symptoms of his illness.

China - Xinnian's story

“I’ve been a Christian for 20 years. I was baptized last year. My husband didn’t like me going to church so he tore up and destroyed my Bible. That was 14 years ago and I’ve been waiting for this day ever since! I’m so happy to get another one.”

After Xinnian’s husband destroyed her Bible, he fell off a roof and was badly injured. But Xinnian prayed for him every day with his knowledge and he slowly recovered. After that he no longer objected to her going to church, but there are still other challenges for Xinnian.

Xinnian’s church is located in a remote, beautiful valley in Hunan Province. Like many members of the congregation Xinnian walks for two hours to get to church. Near the church there is a stream with stepping stones which she must cross. On rainy days the stream floods and Xinnian must wade over.

During the recent Bible distribution by the United Bible Societies, church members carried boxes of Bibles across the stream on their shoulders. For Xinnian it was a dream come true to receive a new Bible, something she had been waiting for, for a long time.

Like Xinnian, there are many Christians in China who are waiting to receive a Bible. The Church in China is growing at an exponential rate with around 10,000 people becoming Christians every week!

And like Xinnian, many of these new Christians live in rural areas and are desperately poor.

Cambodia - Saliep's story

“I live in Uddor Meanchey, one of the poorest areas of Cambodia. I don’t have a father. He died in a traffic accident. My family lives a hand to mouth existence as subsistence farmers. I’ve never even owned a book, but now I own a Bible! It’s my most treasured possession!”

“One day, a local pastor called Pastor Vannak visited my family. He invited me and my sister to a free Saturday Bible programme.

“Walking into the compound with my sister, I was nervous because I thought that others would laugh at me because of my appearance. Instead, a kind, smiling lady came and welcomed us. This was Sayon, Pastor Vannak’s wife. They ran a church and free mission school for students aged 5 – 18 years.

“I didn’t know what to expect. We sang with other children. We learnt about God, and Jonah and the whale. That was one of the best days of my life! Jonah and the whale is still my favourite Bible story.

“I went home happy and desperate to tell my mother, but she was afraid. My Bible teacher came to meet my mum. She explained what we do and over time things improved.

“Everyone at the mission school receives a new set of clothes, notebooks and pens, along with free lunches. There are now around 80 students, along with a growing church of 50 people. However, Bibles and Scripture portions are expensive and the mission only has a few.

“One day there was a visit from people with Bible Society. They brought boxes out of the car. We were intrigued! We had no idea what was in the boxes.

“They gave us free Bibles! My sister and I had never even owned a book! Now my Bible is my most treasured possession. I know that I will treasure it forever! My life has changed!”
