Day of Prayer

The UBS Day of Prayer – a significant celebration in the life of our global Fellowship – has been held annually on May 9, coinciding with the anniversary of the founding of the United Bible Societies on 9 May, 1946.

Every year, since 1983, we have gathered together to give thanks for all that God has achieved through this global Fellowship, to pray for our shared mission today and into the future, and to seek his guidance on ongoing efforts to make the Bible accessible to everyone.

Day of Prayer 2024

In 2024, war and conflict have spread to regions of the world that have not experienced violence for several decades. Approximately 20% of our Fellowship has recently experienced violence, conflict, and political instability.

Additionally, approximately half of the world’s population will be asked to decide their political leaders this year. The political candidates and future leaders need our prayers (1 Timothy 2:1-3). Whether in conflict or peacetime, our leaders – be they secular or ecclesiastical – need Godly wisdom and our prayers can petition the Lord for such wisdom and peace.

For the Day of Prayer this year, four official prayers were written by four leaders at Bible Societies affected by violence and conflict in 2024 – accompanied by prayers written by Dr. Cristian Romocea, UBS Global Mission Team Head of Member Relations – Church Under Pressure and Rev. Dirk Gevers, UBS General Secretary. You can access the full prayers and prayer points here.
