The Aetherlight

We want to help 100,000 Kiwi kids and young people engage with the Bible.

To achieve this ambitious task, we need innovative and creative products that point a young generation to the Bible, and help them understand God’s story.  The Aetherlight: Chronicles of the Resistance does just that.

Developed by an Auckland game studio, The Aetherlight is a web-based gaming platform that delivers Bible content to teens and pre-teens within  an allegorical world called Aethasia. Within Aethasia, gamers can explore the grand narrative themes and stories of Scripture. The Aetherlight: Chronicles of the Resistance is the first game of its kind and aims to help young people see their story in the context of God’s story via a world grounded in the Biblical narrative.

Launched in 2016, The Aetherlight already has thousands of Kiwi players and tens of thousands worldwide.

The game tells a tale paralleling the story of the Bible, reimagining the Bible story as a ’steampunk’ allegory taking characters and stories from the Bible and putting a fresh face on them to connect with kids.

Bible Society New Zealand is proud to partner with Scarlet City to help families and churches connect the story kids encounter in the world of Aethasia to the real story of the Bible.

The Aetherlight is available now on PC and Macs.  Visit www.theaetherlight.com for full details.

About the game makers

Auckland-based Scarlet City Studios was established in 2012 with the sole intention of bridging the cultural, historical and pedagogical gap between the contemporary world of pre-teens and the world of the Bible. Scarlet City’s unique framework is based on the principles of faith, hope and love—telling great stories, nurturing genuine innovation and fostering real encounters.
