“I had a friend whom I used to drink with. One day he said to me, ‘Eugenij, you have so many questions.’ He gave me a copy of the New Testament. I began reading it. One day I couldn’t resist anymore. I gave my life to Jesus.”
Eugenij was an artist. During the communist era in the Soviet Union artists were fortunate because they had employment building statues of Lenin for town and village squares. Their brief was to make communist ideology clearly visible in open spaces.
Yet in spite of his relative security Eugenij had many problems. “My first marriage ended and I lost contact with my first child. I remarried but my life wasn’t working out,” says Eugenij.
“I had a friend whom I used to drink with. He became a Christian. One day he said to me, ‘Eugenij, you have so many questions, you can find the answers in this book’, and he gave me a copy of the New Testament. I began reading. One day I gave my life to Jesus.”
However, Eugenij’s wife was deeply involved in politics and she wasn’t happy about his new faith. She rang his work and he was called before senior managers to defend himself. Everyone wanted to save him from this ‘cult’.
Finally, he and his wife sorted out their differences and today Eugenij is the pastor of a church. He uses his artistic abilities to make stained glass windows. His wife is happy and sings in the church choir.Back to Bible a Month Club
